2012 Official Rules
We're looking for great photos of Canton, Mo and Lewis County, and we think you might have some...
So we're holding a “Images of Lewis County” photo contest - with cash prizes! We're looking for photos of rural landscapes, small towns, wildlife, people, architecture and recreation. So dig through your hard drive, tell your friends, and pull out the camera for some stunning shots. We'd love photos from all seasons, and all parts of the county.
Photo Eligibility
All photos must have been taken in the Lewis County area within the last year. The photo subject must be relevant to one of the following contest categories:
Photographer/Copyright
Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than you. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted. Your submission of the photo and entry form is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photo.
Number of Entries
An individual may submit up to four photos per category for the contest period.
Photo Subject Restrictions
Photos must be appropriate for posting on a public website. Obscene, provocative or otherwise questionable content will not be considered. The Canton Tourism commission retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content.
Ownership/Use Rights
Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photograph displayed on the showmecanton.com website without any fee or other form of compensation, and agree that Canton, Mo Tourism commission may display winning photos on their website, and may retain copies of the photograph for archival purposes. Photos may be credited to the photographer named in the entry form. Entries (including non-winning entries) may be selected for display or use in other Canton Mo. web pages and promotional materials. Entries will never be used by the Canton Tourism commission in any manner for sale. In the event that ownership of any photograph submitted to the Canton Tourism commission is contested in any manner, Canton Tourism commission retains the discretion to disqualify that photograph and discontinue use of the photograph.
What to Enter:
We are looking for great pictures that show the beauty of Lewis County and Canton, Mo, sunsets, plants, animals, people (with photo release) and architecture.
By entering a photo, you are verifying:
- The image is your own;
- The photo has not been altered beyond standard optimization;
- All people pictured in the photo have granted permission for contest use, including Canton Tourism commission's unlimited right to reproduce the photo into perpetuity;
- The photo is not subject to any third party agreements;
- And no laws were violated in obtaining the photo.
Photos should accurately reflect the original image. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (cropping, color, contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. This includes the digital addition or deletion of objects in the photos. Photo eligibility is the sole discretion of the contest judge.
Photos may originate in any form but must be submitted electronically. A high-resolution version may be uploaded to the contest Flickr page.
How to Enter:
Internet access is required to participate in the contest. Participants must review the full rules before entering any photos. Photos must be submitted electronically via Flickr. There is no entry fee to participate. Any participant also needs to fill out registration form here.
Flickr is a photo sharing website made up of many individuals and groups. To submit your contest photos via Flikr, logon to Flickr.com. If you do not have a Flickr account, you can create an account for free. You can also use your Yahoo!, Google, or Facebook login to access Flickr. After logging in, use the “Upload” feature to upload photos to your Flickr page.
Next, you will need to visit Canton Tourism's Flickr group page. Go to the link http://www.flickr.com/groups/showmecanton/ and click on “add photos” .
Browse through the photos you wish to submit for the contest, and use the “Send to Group” feature to add your images to Canton Tourism's group page.
All photos added to the Canton Tourism Flickr group page should have a title, author, location of photo and caption. These can be added using the fields beneath the photo. It is important to make sure authorship is clearly labeled with each entry (especially if your Flickr account is not set up under your official first/last name), (also add contest title in caption "Images of Lewis County" so Canton Tourism can: a.) properly credit contest photos when utilized in promotional media; and b.) notify winners and send prizes if applicable.
If you have trouble using Flickr, please consult their online help files. Canton Tourism is not responsible for any issues or problems you encounter while using Flickr or attempting to upload a photo.
Canton Tourism reserves the right to remove any entry from the Flickr group page if it is deemed inappropriate or does not adhere to contest guidelines.

OTHERWISE YOUR PHOTOS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY THE JUDGE.
Judging:
Canton Tourism will review each photograph received and will accept only those entries that meet the official requirements outlined in these rules. A member of the Canton Tourism commission will review accepted entries and select the winning photos. The decisions of Canton Tourism contest judge is final.
Winners:
Winning photos will appear on showmecanton.com after March 17,2012. Prizes include:$50 for best of show, $30 for 1st, $20 for 2nd and $10 for 3rd.
Deadline:
Entries must be uploaded to the contest Flickr page by March 10, 2012, 11:59 PM.
Your Rights:
By participating in the contest, you hereby grant Canton Tourism commission unlimited, non-exclusive, irrevocable permission to publish and reproduce your image in media including but not limited to print items, website, and promotional materials into perpetuity. You retain all other applicable ownership rights to the photo. Canton Tourism agrees to properly credit photographers whenever their photos are used. Canton Tourism reserves the right to exclude any photo from the contest.
