Canton Police Department Crime Prevention ProgramsThe Canton Police Department takes a proactive approach to law enforcement by offering a number of crime prevention programs. Officers at the department offer educational programs, crime prevention tips, provide information for students writing articles or papers while also performing all duties of a patrol officer. While we recognize that nothing will completely stop crime, we know that crime can be deterred if everyone actively protects his/her safety and belongings. Contact us today to learn ways to make yourself safer and also see the crime tip information page on this web site. PROGRAMS OFFERED THROUGH CRIME PREVENTION R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) By far our most popular program for women only! Classes are 12 hours in length and scheduled throughout the year. Offered free to any woman. Visit the R.A.D. page for more information contact Sergeant C.A. Bringer for additional information. Bicycle Registration CPD offers free bicycle registration. This will also help prevent your bicycle from being stolen and will help in the recovery process if it is stolen. Contact a CPD Officer or police clerk to have bicycle registration completed. Burglary Prevention Unfortunately, the burglar does not need to look around very long to discover "Welcome Burglar" signs unwittingly left around many homes. It is even more unfortunate when you realize that all it takes to make your home less inviting to a burglar is a little common sense and several easy, effective and inexpensive crime prevention measures. At your request a CPD officer will survey your home or place of business and make recommendations for burglary prevention. This program is offered in correlation with OPERATION ID in hope burglary and stealing within the city are reduced. Contact Corporal K.J. Turnbaugh for additional information. OPERATION ID This service is set up on an individual basis. An officer will meet with you and help record serial numbers on items of value. These items which do not have a serial number can be engraved with our electric engraver. This program was established to deter a person from stealing items and help recover stolen items. The officer will keep a form and provide a copy to you for your records if you should ever become a victim of theft. D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) CPD partners with the Canton R-V School District and present the D.A.R.E. Program. This program teaches the responsible decision making to give young people the tools they need to resist drugs and alcohol.
